YouTube Safety

Restricted Mode is an opt-in setting available on the computer and mobile site that helps screen out potentially objectionable content that you may prefer not to see or don’t want others in your family to stumble across while enjoying YouTube. You can think of this as a parental control setting for YouTube.  This is not a fool-proof solution as YouTube relies on the community to flag inappropriate content before it is filtered out.  Also, what is appropriate for a 16 year old may not be appropriate for an 8 year old but unfortunately Restricted Mode isn’t very granular.  It will block the worst content, but some may get seen.  Be vigilant with YouTube.

If your kids are younger, rather use YouTube Kids which is an app for IOS and Android which is far stricter on only showing child appropriate content.

Please be aware that Restricted Mode can not be locked on the YouTube Mobile apps at this time. It is advised to rather use YouTube kids if appropriate.
